It seems that everyone loves a good tale about people smoking marijuana in the movies. It doesn’t matter if marijuana is the focus or a twist in the plot; smoking indeed adds something to the movie. In years gone by pot smoking in a movie was often seen as something funny or mischievous. As times have changed, so too has the view of cannabis. Today, people fire up joints in movies, much like you’d expect to see people drinking a beer at a bar. The stigma has indeed been removed, and that’s a good thing. It is if you’re the type who likes to sit down with a bowl of fine herb while watching a movie.
Movies haven’t always been kind to marijuana smokers
Reefer Madness has to be the first movie that comes to mind that portrays smokers as being anything but happy people seeking to have a good time. The villain in the movie is the plant and what it makes people do. Sometimes you have to wonder if the people who wrote the movie ever smoked marijuana in their lives. If they had, those people would know that someone stoned doesn’t play the piano faster. If anything, someone high on marijuana is going to play the piano so slow that it gets on the nerves of others.
Cheech and Chong changed how the world saw pot heads
Cheech and Chong were special in the sense that they took California marijuana to new levels. They were famous for both the great state and the smoke they loved more than anything. For some people, these fun-loving hippies were the first introduction to marijuana they had. If you lived in rural America, you might have never encountered someone who smokes marijuana and has no idea how they act. So, in that sense, Cheech and Chong were ambassadors of a plant that people seem to want to make evil without any reason to do so.
Seth Rogen and others are the modern faces of pot
It doesn’t matter if they like it or not; Seth Rogen and his generation are now what people think of when it comes to marijuana in the movies. He can often be seen enjoying taking a few hits alongside his costars. It’s hard to imagine what the world would be like if it were for guys like him blazing into the future. Everyone who smokes and enjoys doing so legally has people like Seth to thank for sticking their necks out on the line for them.
